"Correspondence is the key, the shared spell of metaphor, of linking this and that, this image to that concept, this gesture to that ancient persona. In The H.D. Book, Duncan compares Poetry and Hermetic alchemy: 'The rhymes of this poetry are correspondences, workings of figures and patterns of figures in which we apprehend the whole we do not see.' That’s part of the key: both systems remain open."
